Fire Hydrant Break Flange Must be Installed at Grade

It is very important to make sure that your fire hydrant is well maintained and functioning properly. One key element is to make sure the outer break flange and the internal connection of the stem are located at the grade point. If your hyrdrant is not installed at grade it can cause more work and more money in the long run, especially if it were ever hit by a vehicle. One of the most important pieces of equipment that we offer is the Break Flange. The Break Flange feature of a fire hydrant was invented in 1960. Shortly after, virtually all hydrant manufacturers adopted this feature. If the Break Flange is installed correctly at grade and somehow the fire hydrant is disconnected from the piping, there will be no extra loss of water. I’m sure you have seen many videos on the news of broken fire hydrants flooding the streets, they could all have been prevented by making sure you are staying current with your fire hydrant maintenance and having our break flange installed correctly and at grade.

It is very important that both the outer break flange and the internal connection of the stem be located at the grade point.
