Fire Hydrant Maintenance – Testing Tips

Fire hydrant maintenance should be completed on a regular basis in order to make sure that your hydrant is functioning properly. It is very important that both the nozzle and cap of a hydrant are cleaned thoroughly with the use of a wire brush and a towel prior to applying lubricants.

In order to evenly apply a sufficient amount of anti-seize/lubricant, we have found a good way is to apply four lines of material perpendicular across the Threads of the nozzles. Then, screw on the cap and remove it and then re-apply the cap. If this is done the anti-seize, lubricant will be evenly distributed to the whole nozzle.
